Area Codes. There are two local area codes for Cagayan de Oro. This depends on the Phone carrier. Phone carriers PLDT-Philcom, Smart Broadband, Italtel and Sotelco use local area code number 88 These local phone numbers start with numbers 8, 2, or 3. Example: (88) 8561234; (88) 2311234; (88) 3501234.

Phone carrier MisOrTel (Government owned) uses local area code number 8822. The local phone number starts with number 7. Example: (8822) 721234; (8822) 734567.

The Philippine country code is 63 and the international access code is 00. If you want to contact phone numbers 8561234 and 721234 from abroad, you dial the following, except for countries enumerated below:

For the following countries, instead of using 00, use the following international access codes: US and Canada (011), Australia (0011), Japan (010), Russia (810), Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong (001), Taiwan (002).

Prepaid mobile phone lines and prepaid cards are readily available. You can buy these at shopping centers or the nearest mobile shops. No papers or documents needed.

Just recently, Globe Telecom and Smart Communication launched their 3G services nationwide.

Text messaging (SMS) is very popular in the Philippines, with over 100 million text messages being sent every day. Each text message costs around 1 Peso. Due to this phenomenon, there is a growing problem with text scams and fake promotions. Call or visit the mobile carrier's office to verify if the text message promo you received is legitimate.

Long Distance and Fax Service. Cagayan de Oro has several telephone carriers which do not interconnect properly. PLDT-PhilcomExternal siteis the biggest phone company in Cagayan de Oro. It has coin operated phone booths located around the city and shopping centers. Using PLDT-Philcom Callkard, you can make a paid long distance or mobile call at any PLDT-Philcom phone booth.
